Our Care

Out and about, not just delivered to

Support with shopping and everyday errands across Newcastle, North Tyneside and North Shields, so you can keep choosing your own things and stay part of local life.

Keeping your own routines going

Picking your own bread, having a word with the person on the till and knowing which shop does the better fruit are small things that add up to feeling independent. Where it is possible, we would much rather go shopping with you than for you.

When getting out is not practical that day, carers can do the shopping and the errands on your behalf and talk you through what they picked up. Either way, the choices stay yours.

What shopping and errand support can include

  • Going to the supermarket or local shops together
  • Shopping on your behalf when you prefer
  • Writing the shopping list and checking cupboards
  • Putting shopping away and rotating fresh items
  • Collecting prescriptions and everyday items
  • Posting letters and parcels
  • Help with online shopping and deliveries
  • Support to get to the bank, market or garden centre

A shopping trip often turns into the highlight of the week, so there is usually time for a coffee and a chat while you are out.

How shopping and errand support works

  1. Step 01

    Knowing your shops

We note where you like to shop, what you usually buy and how you prefer to pay.

  2. Step 02

    Clear money handling

Spending is agreed in advance and every receipt is kept and recorded, so families can see exactly what was spent.

  3. Step 03

    Together where possible

If you want to come along, we plan enough time so the trip is unhurried rather than a dash round.

  4. Step 04

    Errands folded in

Prescriptions, post and other jobs can be picked up on the same trip to save an extra journey.

Common questions

How is my money handled?

Any spending is agreed with you in advance, receipts are always kept and carers record the transaction. This protects both you and the carer.

Can I come with the carer?

Absolutely, and we encourage it where you feel up to it. Getting out, choosing your own items and seeing familiar faces is good for confidence.

Can you collect prescriptions?

Yes, collecting prescriptions from a local pharmacy can be included as part of your agreed support.
