Care that starts with the person

A diagnosis of dementia can bring changes, but it does not change who someone is. We take time to learn about each person's life, routines, interests, relationships and preferences, then build support around what matters to them.

Familiar surroundings, routines and faces can be reassuring. Wherever possible, we aim to provide a small and consistent care team, helping familiarity and trust to develop over time.

What dementia support can include

  • Keeping to familiar daily routines
  • Gentle prompting and reassurance
  • Help with washing, dressing and grooming
  • Prompting and support with medication
  • Support with meals, drinks and regular mealtime routines
  • Company, conversation and reminiscence
  • Support to keep up hobbies and activities
  • Walks and trips to familiar local places

Staying connected matters too, so visits often include time out of the house at places the person already knows and enjoys.

How dementia support works

  1. Step 01

    Learning the life story

We learn about interests, work, family, routines and preferences so carers understand the person behind the diagnosis.

  2. Step 02

    A plan agreed together

We agree the support with the person and, where appropriate, those important to them, including what helps them feel comfortable and reassured.

  3. Step 03

    A small, consistent team

Wherever possible, we aim to keep familiar carers involved so relationships, recognition and trust can develop.

  4. Step 04

    Keeping the right people informed

With the person's wishes, consent and care arrangements in mind, our local team can keep family members or other appropriate representatives updated and review support as needs change.

Common questions

Are your carers trained in dementia support?

Yes. Our carers complete dementia awareness training as part of their induction and ongoing development, and they are supported by the local office team.

What happens on a difficult day?

Carers stay calm, patient and reassuring, using what we know about the person and their familiar routines to help them feel safe. We adapt the visit to their needs, record what helped and share it with the wider team.

Can you help someone stay involved in the community?

Where it is safe and welcome, yes. Support can include walks, cafes, shopping, hobbies, appointments, community groups and familiar local places, depending on the person's wishes and care plan.

Can you give medical advice about dementia?

No. Our carers do not diagnose dementia or provide medical advice. We support the agreed care plan, and if we notice changes or concerns we can help families know when to raise these with an appropriate healthcare professional such as a GP or memory service.
