Our Care

Good company, and a reason to get out again

Companionship care across Newcastle, North Tyneside including North Shields, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Ponteland and selected communities across Northumberland, for people who want conversation, confidence and a hand to keep doing the things they enjoy.

More than someone to sit with

Life can become quieter when routines change, friends move away or getting out starts to feel more difficult. Companionship visits bring a friendly, familiar face and something to look forward to.

This is where Time to Thrive matters most to us. A visit might be a cup of tea and a proper conversation at home, or it might be a walk along the Quayside, a look round the shops, a trip to a coffee morning or getting back to a hobby that had been put to one side.

What companionship support can include

  • Conversation and company at home
  • Walks and getting out and about locally
  • Trips to cafes, shops and the market
  • Support to attend clubs, groups and places of worship
  • Help getting to appointments
  • Hobbies, crafts, puzzles and reading together
  • Looking through photographs and sharing memories
  • Help keeping in touch with family by phone or video call

Companionship visits are often combined with practical help, so a trip out can also cover the shopping or a bit of tidying while we are there.

How companionship support works

  1. Step 01

    Getting to know you

We start with a conversation about your interests, your history and what a good day looks like for you.

  2. Step 02

    Matched on personality

We match you with carers who share your interests and who you are likely to get along with.

  3. Step 03

    Visits you shape

You decide whether time is spent at home, out in the community or a mix of both.

  4. Step 04

    Kept under review

As your routines, interests or needs change, your companionship visits can change too. We review things with you and adjust the support where needed.

Common questions

Can a companionship visit be spent out of the house?

Yes. Many people use their visit to get out, whether that is a walk, the shops, a garden centre, a local group or a coffee somewhere familiar. We agree how you would like to use the visit as part of your care plan.

Can carers drive me somewhere?

Support to get to appointments and activities can often be arranged. We will talk through the practical options with you when we plan your care.

How long is a visit?

Our visits start from 30 minutes and can be longer depending on the support you need. Companionship visits can be arranged for longer where appropriate, giving you time to enjoy the activity without feeling rushed.
